Government’s another big attack on cyber fraud, 22 lakh WhatsApp accounts banned

New Delhi. The Department of Telecommunications has taken another major action to crack down on the increasing cyber crime and online fraud in the country. The department has blocked 22 lakh WhatsApp accounts being used for fraudulent calls and messages. This step has been taken on the basis of complaints lodged by common citizens on the ‘Sanchar Sathi’ portal.

The Department of Telecommunications shared the information about this action through its official handle. The post read, Prevention of cyber fraud! With the help of ‘Sanchar Saathi’, 22 lakh WhatsApp accounts related to cyber crimes have been blocked. This step to stop fake accounts, fraud and cyber frauds is making digital India safe and reliable.

This action is part of the government’s extensive campaign against cyber criminals. Earlier too, the department had shut down more than 4.2 crore mobile connections involved in cyber crime. Not only this, the mobile numbers of 27 lakh mobile handsets being used for fraud have also been blacklisted and made ‘Dabba’, due to which they are not capable of working on any network.

The Department of Telecommunications has appealed to the general public to immediately report any suspicious or fraudulent calls and messages on the ‘Sanchar Sathi’ portal. This helps in taking action against the criminals.
