Haridwar | Utkarsh Dwivedi
With the beginning of the month of Shravan, preparations for the Kanwar fair in Haridwar have gained momentum. This time the administration has made it clear that there will be no compromise on food safety during the Kanwar Yatra. The checking campaign of the Food Safety Department is in full swing across the district, and strict action will be taken against those who set up shops or dhabas without a license.
Inspection and strict guidelines on travel route
District Food Safety Officer Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh himself inspected the Kanwar Yatra route and instructed that:
All hotels, dhabas, restaurants, temporary shops and bhandaras must clearly display the food licence or registration certificate.
It is mandatory to install food safety display board at every food establishment.
Selling food items without license will attract a fine of up to ₹ 2 lakh and legal action will be taken.
The administration is cautious about the health of the devotees. Food safety officers will regularly monitor the prasad and food being distributed in the bhandaras. Strict action will be taken against those who serve food based on adulteration, contaminated oil, stale food or dirt.
Lakhs of devotees reach Haridwar during the Kanwar Yatra. It is our responsibility to provide clean, certified and quality food for their health and safety. Every vendor will have to follow this.
Sanjay Kumar Singh, District Food Safety Officer, Haridwar

The Haridwar administration has clarified that this time the Kanwar Mela will not only be a festival of faith, but will also be an example of safety and discipline.
