Rana Sanga’s name is written in golden letters in the history of India. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the mention of Mewar is incomplete without Rana Sanga. He was a powerful and famous king of Mewar, who ruled in the 16th century. Rana Sanga made Mewar a powerful and prosperous state during his reign. Rana Sanga was born on 12 April 1482 in Chittorgarh, Mewar. He was the son of Rana Raimal and a member of the dynasty of Mewar. His full name was Maharana Sangram Singh but he became famous as Rana Sanga.
Became the successor of Mewar in 1509
After the death of his father, Rana Sanga became the successor of Mewar in 1509. The border of Mewar was Agra in the east, Gujarat border in the south. His army had 80 thousand horses, 500 elephants and about two lakh infantry soldiers. The enemies were afraid of his name itself. The Battle of Khatoli was fought in 1517 between the Lodi dynasty led by Delhi Sultan Ibrahim Lodi and the Mewar Empire led by Rana Sanga. In this war, Rana Sanga defeated Ibrahim Lodi badly. He tried to take revenge from Rana Sanga by attacking again in 1518-19, but Rana Sanga again defeated him badly in Dholpur, Rajasthan. Ibrahim Lodi fled from there.
The specialty of Rana Sanga’s army was that his discipline, leadership and military training were excellent. This was the reason why Rana Sanga’s army dominated the enemies in the war from the very beginning. The cavalry of this army was very strong. There were 80 thousand horses in this cavalry. It had the ability to give a decisive turn to the war. At the same time, Rana Sanga’s infantry was also very strong. There were two lakh infantry soldiers. At the same time, Rana Sanga’s army also had 500 elephants.
Ibrahim Lodi was defeated by Rana Sanga many times
If historians are to be believed, he fought 18 wars with the Sultans of Delhi, Malwa, Gujarat and he won all of them. He fought this battle to protect Mewar. Ibrahim Lodi fought with Sanga many times, but every time he had to face defeat. Due to these wars Ibrahim lost all his lands in modern Rajasthan. At the same time, Rana Sanga extended his influence up to Peeliya Khar in Agra. According to the 16th century manuscript ‘Parshvanatha-Shravan-Sattavisi’, Rana Sanga defeated Ibrahim Lodi at Ranthambore just after the siege of Mandsaur.
