Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (Zelenskyy ) has issued a message on Christmas Eve that has captured the attention of the entire world. In this message, Zelenskyy not only wished for the death of Russian President Vladimir Putin but also presented a major 20-point peace plan to end the war.
Zelenskyy’s wish for Putin?
Zelenskyy said, “No matter how much suffering Russia has inflicted, it is not capable of destroying the heart of our Ukraine, our faith, and our unity.” Without naming Putin, he said in very strong words, “Today we all have one dream and we all have one wish – ‘that his end comes,’ as everyone says to themselves.” He further added that we pray to God for peace, for which we are fighting and which we deserve.
Anger over Recent Russian Bombings
Zelenskyy’s sharp statement comes after recent missile and drone attacks by Russia. On Tuesday, Russia launched a fierce attack on Ukraine with Kinzhal missiles and Shahed drones, killing three people and causing massive power outages. Zelenskyy called it an attack by evildoers.
Zelenskyy’s 20-Point Peace Plan
To stop the war, Zelenskyy shared a ’20-point plan’ in a briefing with journalists. He said that Ukraine is ready to withdraw its troops from its eastern industrial region (Donbas). However, he said that this would only be possible if Moscow also withdraws its troops and the region becomes a demilitarized zone under the supervision of international forces. He said that the same model could be applied to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (which is currently under Russian control). Zelenskyy clarified that a referendum would be held in Ukraine before any peace plan is finalized.
