Unclaimed Deposit: If you have a savings or current account with the bank, then there is important news for you. Actually, the Reserve Bank of India has started the ‘100 Days 100 Pays’ campaign on 1 June. The purpose of this special campaign of RBI is to find out (You) and settle the top 100 unclaimed deposits lying in the banks. Every bank in 100 districts will come under its ambit. This campaign will help in the efforts of RBI to reduce the unclaimed amount.
The central bank wants that the unclaimed amount lying in the banks should be traced to their rightful claimants. Explain that if there is no activity in a bank account for 10 years or more, then the money deposited in it is considered as unclaimed deposit.
Unclaimed deposits in banks reached above Rs 48,262 crore in the financial year 2021-22. According to the annual report of RBI, Rs 39,264 crore unclaimed deposits have been found in the financial year 2020-21. According to RBI, unclaimed amount is more in banks of Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bengal, Karnataka, Bihar, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Unclaimed deposit information is available on bank websites
Every bank will have to give details of unclaimed accounts on its website. In this, such details will also have to be given, with the help of which it can be easy to identify such account holder. Customers can visit the bank branch after checking the details on the bank’s website. There the formalities related to Know Your Customer will have to be completed along with the claim form.
