Woman officer who became IAS at the age of 22

IAS Toppers: Cracking the UPSC exam is no child’s play as it is one of the toughest exams in the country. It takes a lot of hard work and patience to crack the civil service exam. Today we will talk about IAS officer Anju Sharma, who had failed in some subjects in 12th class, but at the age of 22, passed the UPSC exam and achieved success. He turned failure into success.
Anju Sharma had failed in the economics paper in class 12th and also failed in pre-board chemistry in class 10th. However, he passed the other subjects with distinction. He said that no one prepares you for failures but for success.
However, he believes that these two incidents in his life shaped his future. Anju had said in an interview, “During my pre-boards, I had so many chapters to cover and it was almost after dinner when I started panicking because I was not prepared and I knew That I was going to fail. Everyone around me used to stress on how important the 10th standard performance is as it decides our further studies.”

In this difficult time, his mother consoled him and encouraged him. He also learned the lesson that one should not depend on last minute studies. So he started preparing for college exams from the very beginning and this helped him to become a gold medalist in his college. He completed his BSC and MBA from Jaipur.

This strategy also helped him crack the UPSC exam in the first attempt. He completed his syllabus well in advance and made it to the list of IAS toppers. Anju started her career in 1991 as Assistant Collector, Rajkot. He has also worked in different positions as DDO Baroda, Gandhinagar, District Collector and in the Ministry of Industries and Commerce, Government of India.
