Tianjin: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ( Modi) arrived in China after more than 7 years. This visit is special in many ways, as this meeting has become even more important due to the recent trade tension in India-US relations. Modi has come to Tianjin to attend the annual conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which will be held on 31 August and 1 September. Why is the Modi-Xi meeting special?
In this meeting, the two leaders will review India-China economic relations and discuss steps to further improve mutual relations. Modi will also hold bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and many other leaders at the SCO conference on this tour. New beginning in India-China relations
Recently, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India. During this, he had a long conversation with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Both the countries announced several steps like maintaining peace on the border, resuming border trade and starting direct flights. These steps are important in the direction of ‘stable, cooperative and future-oriented’ relations between the two countries. On October 21 last year, an agreement was reached between India and China, under which the withdrawal of troops from the last disputed areas like Demchok and Depsang in Ladakh was completed. This took a big step towards normalizing the relations between the two countries.
Where was Modi’s last visit to China?
PM Modi last visited China in June 2018 for the SCO conference. At the same time, Chinese President Xi Jinping came to India in October 2019, when the two leaders had an ‘informal summit’ in Chennai. PM Modi’s visit is expected to bring new warmth and trust in India-China relations. Increasing cooperation between the two countries will not only strengthen bilateral trade, but will also bring stability on the global stage.
