New Delhi: The name of the new Chief Election Commissioner has been announced. Gyanesh Kumar  ( Gyanesh Kumar)  will be the new Chief Election Commissioner. He will replace Rajiv Kumar. This information has been given by the Law Ministry.
Who is Gyanesh Kumar?
Gyanesh Kumar was named as Election Commissioner in March last year. He will replace the current Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. Gyanesh Kumar will oversee the Bihar assembly elections later this year and elections in Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu next year.
Gyanesh Kumar, a 1988 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, is the senior of the two commissioners in the three-member panel, which was headed by Rajiv Kumar till he left office this morning. The other commissioner in the panel is Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, an officer of Uttarakhand cadre.

1989 batch IAS Dr Vivek Joshi has been appointed as Election Commissioner, which will be effective from the date he assumes office.

Rajiv Kumar took over in the year 2022

The current Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar took over this post in the year 2022. Under his leadership, the Election Commission conducted the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Apart from this, assembly elections were conducted in many states. These include Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Delhi Assembly elections held this year.

Meeting was held in PM Office

A meeting was held in the PM Office regarding the selection of the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). This meeting was held by a 3-member committee led by PM Modi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also attended it. On the selection of CEC, the Congress had suggested to the government that the meeting should be postponed till the hearing in the Supreme Court.
