New Delhi: Are the avenues of reconciliation open between the farmers and the central government now? Indications of this are being received by the announcement of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and the cancellation of the Parliament march by the farmers. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Saturday said that criminal cases will not be registered against the farmers who burn stubble. Whereas here the farmers’ organizations canceled their already scheduled program of Parliament House march. The farmers asked the government to start the process of talks again.
The United Kisan Morcha said that they had planned to hold a big protest in the national capital during the winter session but it has now been postponed till December 4. Earlier on November 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had come out and said that the central government will withdraw all three agricultural laws. On Saturday morning, the Agriculture Minister urged the farmers that the government is withdrawing the laws, so they should end their agitation. Responding to this, the farmer leaders said that they have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding their other demands and they will wait for his reply till December 4.
In order to withdraw the agricultural laws brought in September 2020, the government has made its preparations to pass a new law in this session. But the farmers are still protesting for their other demands including the guaranteed MSP. Farmer leader Darshan Pal said, ‘We will wait for the government’s reply on the letter written to the PM. In this letter, we have informed them about all our important demands. The government must hold talks so that other remaining issues can be resolved.
Let us tell you that apart from the guaranteed MSP, the farmers want land in the memory of those who died during this long agitation. Apart from this, he is also demanding the removal of all the cases registered against the farmers during this demonstration.
They have also demanded that electricity should be made cheaper for the farmers and the anti-pollution law should also be changed. PM Modi had said that the government will form a committee to make the MSP system more transparent. The Agriculture Minister said that representatives of farmers would also be included in this committee. After which the demand of the farmers regarding MSP was also fulfilled.
Let us inform that the decision to withdraw agricultural laws has been taken a few months before the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. States like Punjab and Uttar Pradesh have a large population of farmers and they play an important role in terms of votes as well.
The United Kisan Morcha has also demanded the removal of Union Minister of State Ajay Mishra Teni from the post of minister. Let us inform that the son of the Union Minister was also arrested after the incident in Lakhimpur-Kheeri of UP. 8 people died in this incident.
