New Delhi: India has made a 10-year deal with Iran regarding Chabahar  (Chabahar) port, about which America is not at all happy. America has warned India of the possible risk of sanctions. A day after the warning, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has given a blunt reply to America. S Jaishankar also made it clear that this project will benefit the entire region, people should not accept its narrow perspective.

The Foreign Minister also emphasized that America had earlier accepted the broader importance of Chabahar Port. He said this during a conversation after the release of the Bengali version of his book ‘Why India Matters’ in Kolkata on Tuesday.

When External Affairs Minister Jaishankar was asked about America’s stance, he said, “I saw some comments that were made, but I think it is a question of communicating, explaining and making people understand that this is actually “It’s for everyone’s benefit. I don’t think people should take a narrow view of it.”

S Jaishankar said, “America has not done this before, so, if you look at America’s attitude towards the port in Chabahar, earlier it has been appreciating the broader relevance of the port. He said that we will work on it. .”

America warns India on Chabahar deal
Let us tell you that America had warned on Tuesday that “anyone” considering a trade deal with Tehran should be aware of the potential risk of sanctions. US State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said in a press briefing, “I will just say this… US sanctions on Iran remain in place and will be maintained.” When asked whether Indian companies could also come under the ambit of these sanctions, Vedant Patel said that anyone who is considering a business deal with Iran will remain at risk of potential risks.

Chabahar Port Deal between India and Iran
Let us tell you that India and Iran have signed an agreement for the operation of the terminal of Shahid Beheshti port of Chabahar. A deal has been signed for 10 years, this information was given by the Indian Embassy in Iran through a post on X. India Ports Global Limited and Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization signed the agreement.

This is the first time that India will take over the management of a port located abroad. Chabahar Port is located in Sistan-Baluchistan province on the southern coast of Iran. India and Iran are jointly developing this port.
On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said in a meeting with Iran, ‘With the signing of this deal, we have laid the foundation of India’s long-term involvement in Chabahar. This deal will have a manifold impact on the viability and visibility of Chabahar Port. Chabahar is not only the nearest Iranian port to India but is also an excellent port from the point of view of sea transportation.

There was a deal between India and Iran earlier also
In the year 2016 also, a deal was signed between India and Iran for the operation of Shahid Behesti Port. Now the new deal is being considered as a version of the 2016 deal. Let us tell you that an agreement was reached between the two countries for its development in 2023. India says that this deal will open the way for big investment in the port.

What is the Chabahar deal?
Earlier, any goods sent from India to Afghanistan used to go through Pakistan. But with this deal, India will no longer need Pakistan for trade. India will get a new route for business from Afghanistan and Central Asia. Till now one had to take help of Pakistan to reach these countries. This port is also important for India from strategic and diplomatic point of view.
