West Bengal Elections 2026: Record 92.6% turnout in Phase 2, highest since Independence

National;The second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 recorded a historic voter turnout of 92.65%, marking the highest participation in the State since Independence. With this, the overall turnout across both phases has reached nearly 93%, reflecting strong voter engagement.

Polling in the second phase covered 142 Assembly constituencies across seven districts in south Bengal. While a few isolated incidents of unrest were reported, the voting process was largely peaceful.

Rural districts led the turnout figures, with Purba Bardhaman recording the highest at 93.39%. Other districts such as Hooghly, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, and Nadia also witnessed impressive participation, each recording over 91% turnout.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that there were attempts to influence the election process in her Bhabanipur constituency. She accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to “rig” the elections.

Election officials stated that the high voter turnout demonstrates strong public faith in the democratic process. Attention now shifts to the counting of votes and the final results, expected to be announced soon.
