Waiting for the order of Khap Panchayat( Panchayat)

New Delhi. Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia has indicated that he may pull out of the Asian Games. If all the panchayats  ( Panchayat) who supported him during the demonstration at Jantar Mantar ask him to do so. Several khap panchayats supported Bajrang and five fellow wrestlers sitting at Jantar Mantar to demand the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, following allegations of sexual harassment. These wrestlers also included Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik and Asian Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat.

But later the panchayats were not happy about Bajrang and Vinesh’s demand for exemption in the Asian Games trials. Parents of several wrestlers and their coaches also protested against this exemption in Hisar and at the headquarters of the Indian Olympic Association. Vishal Kaliraman had topped the Asian Games trials but was put on the standby list while Bajrang was the first choice in the 65kg freestyle category. After this, the Khap Panchayats held a meeting at the Jat Dharamshala in Jind to discuss the treatment meted out to Vishal.
Displeasure of Khap Panchayats is increasing
Resentment from khap panchayats is growing and Bajrang indicated at a mahapanchayat in Haryana’s Jind district that he may pull out of the Asiad if the panchayat asks him to do so. About 25 khap panchayats took part in the meeting, but Naresh Tikait of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, who appeared during protests on several occasions at Jantar Mantar, was not present in it. The next khap mahapanchayat will be held on 10 September.

Bajrang will soon leave for Kyrgyzstan
Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Bajrang said, ‘Get all the Khap Panchayats, all the Chaudhary Sangathan members involved in the demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Whatever order they give, I am ready to follow it. I am not going to decide in a closed room. All khap panchayats should take a decision. We are fighting for our daughters because we are not fighting a wrestling match, we are fighting for our daughters. Bajrang will not participate in the mahapanchayat on September 10 as he is leaving for Kyrgyzstan for training. But he said that he would accept and respect the decision of the mahapanchayat.
