Thane. Seven people have been arrested for allegedly running a fake call center and cheating US citizens at a flat in Navi Mumbai. A senior police officer gave this information on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-1 Vivek Pansare told in a press conference that seven people were arrested after raiding the flat located in Sector 20 of Airoli on Thursday night.
“They used to make calls to US citizens with the help of VoIP and sell them anti-virus software, saying that their e-commerce account was hacked. They would force the victims to pay through gift cards and all the money used to come to India through hawala.”
10 laptops, two routers, eight mobile phones and four headsets have been seized, the official said. He said that a case has been registered against the seven accused under relevant provisions of Indian Penal Code, Information and Technology Act and Indian Telegraph Act.
