Uproar in Rajya Sabha over recovery of cash from member’s seat

The Lok Sabha got adjourned on Friday (December 6, 2024) in less than a minute as Congress leader K.C. Venugopal got up to object to the remarks made by BJP’s Nishikant Dubey. Speaker Om Birla said he won’t let the dignity of the House be compromised. “You don’t want to run the Question Hour?” he asked before adjourning the House until noon.

Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said a wad of currency notes was recovered by security staff from the seat allotted to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The assertion triggered an uproar from the Opposition benches, with Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge saying the Chairman should not have named the member without the investigation being completed.

Uttarakhand Police to keep vigil on restaurants and roadside eateries

Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Friday (December 6, 2024) gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha and demanded discussion on the issue of an indictment of Gautam Adani. He further alleged that the government is “working” for Adani, not for the people of India.

On Thursday, Opposition MPs, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, protested over the Adani matter, at the Parliament premises in the National Capital. Opposition MPs wore jackets symbolising their protest over the Adani issue which mentioned: “Modi Adani Ek Hai, Adani safe hai.”

A petition highlighting India’s worsening air pollution crisis was submitted in Parliament on Thursday, in which civil society members called on the lawmakers to convene a joint session to address the issue. The petition sought immediate measures to address what it described as an “unprecedented environmental and public health disaster”.

On day 9 of Parliament Winter Session, the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024 was passed in the Rajya Sabha by a voice vote. In the Lok Sabha, whilst Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw was preparing to deliver his remarks on the discussion concerning the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, the officiating speaker Jagadambika Pal following an unsuccessful appeal to the protesting members, called for the house to be adjourned for the day.
