Unrest erupts again in Nepal

Unrest in Nepal: An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Nepal   ( Nepal)  ‘s Sunsari district following the death of a person in violence near the India-Nepal border; Assistant Chief District Officer Chetraj Baral confirmed this information. According to reports, the situation spiraled out of control after a young man was killed during a violent clash between two communities in Kaptanganj, located in the Sunsari district of southern Nepal. Tensions have escalated further in the border areas—adjacent to the Indian state of Bihar—following this communal violence. To bring the situation under control, the administration has taken strict measures, imposing an indefinite curfew in several parts of Nepal’s Sunsari and Siraha districts.

Current situation following the unrest in Nepal

The communal violence that erupted in Sunsari has now spread to several other cities in Nepal, and the police administration is struggling to manage the situation. Notably, incidents of violence, arson, vandalism, stone-pelting, and clashes with the police have been reported from various parts of the country over the past four days. The situation has become so critical that the army has had to step in, deploying troops on the streets and using helicopters to monitor sensitive areas.

Three dead and many injured so far
It is reported that three people have died and many others have been injured in the violence. The injured include protesters, local residents, and security personnel. The unrest has resulted in damage to both government and private property in several locations. There are also reports that protesters have set fire to dozens of vehicles and shops. In view of the ongoing violence in Nepal, President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed deep concern and appealed to the people to uphold the social, religious, and ethnic harmony, tolerance, mutual goodwill, brotherhood, and national unity that have prevailed for centuries.

High Alert at the India-Nepal Border

Meanwhile, a high alert has been issued at the India-Nepal border amidst tensions caused by four days of communal violence in Nepal’s Diwanganj. The Nepal government has placed security agencies at the main Jogbani border crossing on high alert. Consequently, entry into Nepal from the Indian side without an identity card has been prohibited. This measure has been taken to tackle the violence and prevent any harm to individuals.
