New Delhi. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajeev Kumar said that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held keeping in mind various factors including weather and security concerns. Answering a reporter’s question about the possible timing of elections in the union territories, Kumar said that wherever elections are to be held, the duty of the commission is to form the government under the prescribed procedure.
He said that the process of delimitation has been completed in Jammu and Kashmir and similarly the voter list is being revised. The CEC said that Election Officers and Additional Election Registration Officers have also been appointed in the reorganized and new constituencies. Kumar said that elections should be held after the process is completed and the decision will be taken keeping in mind the weather, security concerns and all other factors.
All eyes are on when the assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. After the removal of Article 370 in 2019, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is waiting for elections. The regional parties have also been demanding for the restoration of the state status of Jammu and Kashmir and the holding of assembly elections for the past several months. In this case, the possibility is being raised that elections can be held there soon.
Polling in Tripura on February 16 and Meghalaya, Nagaland on February 27
Meanwhile, the Election Commission announced the dates of assembly elections in three states of the North-East on Wednesday, blowing the trumpet of the state elections to be held in 2023. As part of the first round of elections to be held this year, Tripura will vote on February 16, while Meghalaya and Nagaland will vote on the same day on February 27. Counting of votes in all three states will be held on March 2.
The notification for Tripura Assembly Elections will be released on January 21 and the last date of nomination will be January 30. The last date for withdrawing nominations will be February 2 and the voting will be on February 16 and the votes will be counted on March 2. The notification for the Meghalaya and Nagaland assembly elections will be issued on January 31 and the last date for nominations will be February 7, while the last date for withdrawing nominations will be February 10. Voting will be held on February 27 and the votes will be counted on March 2.
