Bangkok: The fighting on the border between Thailand and Cambodia shows no sign of stopping. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul posted on Facebook Saturday morning that his country’s army would continue military operations against Cambodia. He completely rejected US President Donald Trump’s ( Trump’s) claim that a ceasefire had been agreed upon between the two countries. Anutin wrote in his Facebook post, “Thailand will continue military action until we feel there is no threat to our land and people. I want to make this very clear. Our actions this morning speak for themselves.”
‘Thai army has not stopped bombing yet’
Anutin’s statement makes it clear that Thailand is not ready to back down yet. Cambodia has also alleged that Thai army attacks are continuing despite Trump’s announcement. According to an Al Jazeera report, Cambodian officials said that the Thai army launched air and ground attacks just hours after the ceasefire claim. Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense posted on social media, “On December 13, 2025, the Thai army dropped 7 bombs from 2 F-16 fighter jets. The Thai army has not stopped bombing and is continuing its attacks.” They said that these attacks were taking place on villages and settlements until 8 am local time.

The Cambodian local newspaper Khmer Times, citing the Ministry of Information, reported that two hotels were targeted in the Thmor Da area of Pursat province near the Thai border. The newspaper also published pictures of the attack sites, showing severely damaged hotel and casino buildings. In a separate incident, the Thai navy fired artillery shells from a ship, which landed in Cambodia’s Koh Kong province. According to Al Jazeera, these shells damaged hotels and coastal areas. Cambodian authorities have not reported any deaths or injuries in these latest attacks. The fighting has been ongoing for the past week.
Nearly 600,000 people displaced due to fighting between Thailand and Cambodia
A peace agreement brokered by Trump in October broke down this week, resulting in at least 20 deaths and approximately 200 injuries in both countries. According to Al Jazeera, nearly 600,000 people have been displaced along the 800-kilometer border between Thailand and Cambodia. The main point of contention is centuries-old temples, the ownership of which both countries claim. Trump claimed in a post on the social media platform Truth Social on Friday night that he had brokered a ceasefire between the two countries.
Anutin rejects Trump’s claim
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I had a very good conversation this morning with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia. This is a very sad situation with the long-running war between the two countries flaring up again. They have agreed to stop all firing this evening and will return to the original peace agreement that I brokered, with the help of the great Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia.” Trump also said that the bomb blast that killed and injured Thai soldiers on the roadside was merely an accident. However, Anutin explicitly rejected this claim in a separate Facebook post.
