Washington: Today marks the 35th day of the joint military action being conducted against Iran by the United States and Israel. More than a month has passed, yet no consensus on a ceasefire appears to be emerging. Meanwhile, another post by US President Donald Trump has heightened the likelihood of the conflict intensifying further. In his post, Trump issued a threat to attack Iran. Previously, Trump had given Iran until April 6 (April 6 ) to reach a settlement—a deadline he has now explicitly recalled.
Trump Issues a Reminder on the Deadline
US President Donald Trump posted an update on his own social media platform, Truth Social. In his post, Trump stated, “Remember when I gave Iran 10 days to make a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz? Time is running out fast.” Trump further wrote, “In 48 hours, hell will rain down upon them.” It is worth noting that only 48 hours now remain until the expiration of the 10-day deadline set by Trump. Given this context, Trump posted this message just before the deadline elapsed, thereby significantly escalating fears that the conflict is poised to intensify.
Attacks Continue from the Iranian Side
It should be noted that Iran has made no overtures toward bringing an end to the conflict. Recently, Iran even dealt a setback to Pakistan, which had been acting as Trump’s envoy. Iran has categorically rejected all of Trump’s conditions as well as Pakistan’s mediation efforts. Concurrently, Iran has intensified its attacks against Israel and the United States across the Middle East. Over the past 24 hours, Iran has shot down two US fighter jets—including F-35s and F-15s—as well as one A-10 aircraft and several military helicopters. This has dealt America its biggest blow in the war to date.
