Washington: US President Donald Trump again criticized Ukraine’s leadership on Sunday, alleging that Kyiv failed to acknowledge US support and efforts during the ongoing war with Russia. He issued a statement on TruthSocial, blaming then-US President Joe Biden ( Biden.) for the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that with proper leadership, this war would not have erupted. Trump also criticized Europe for purchasing oil from Russia.
Ukraine never acknowledged its gratitude – Trump
US President Trump clearly stated that despite the US’s extensive assistance to Ukraine during the war, Ukraine never acknowledged its gratitude. Trump wrote on his social media account, “I inherited a war that should never have happened. A war that cost everyone. Millions of people were needlessly killed. The Ukrainian leadership has shown no gratitude for our efforts. Europe continues to buy oil from Russia. May the souls of all those who died in this war rest in peace.”
Zelensky has until November 27th
Trump posted these comments shortly before US and Ukrainian officials are scheduled to meet in Geneva to discuss their proposals to stop the fighting. The White House has given Ukraine until November 27th to approve the plan. Donald Trump presented a new 28-point plan to end the Ukraine-Russia war and made it clear that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has no option but to continue the fighting any longer and must accept the plan. According to reports, Kyiv is pushing for changes to the draft, which reportedly accept many of Russia’s toughest demands.
Under this proposal, Ukraine would be required to leave disputed territory, drastically reduce its military strength, and permanently renounce NATO membership. On Saturday, Trump told reporters that this proposal was “not his final offer,” but insisted he was determined to stop the fighting at any cost.
Zelensky Disagrees With Proposal
Zelensky said his country could face a tough choice between protecting sovereign rights and US support. He pledged that his people would “always defend their home.” Before Sunday’s talks, French Defense Minister Alice Rufo told France Info that a key point of discussion would be the restrictions imposed on the Ukrainian military in the plan, which “limit its sovereignty.” She said, “Ukraine must be able to defend itself. Russia wants war and has started war several times in recent years.”
