This initiative took place after Russia’s occupation of Ukraine’s ports

new Delhi. The Government of India said on Thursday that it is not joining the Grain Corridor of Ukraine. Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, however, that India has provided food items to many countries during the spurt in food prices. In response to a question related to Ukraine’s Grain Corridor, Bagchi said, I am aware of it. We are cooperating in view of bilateral relations. I cannot say clearly whether we will join the Grain Corridor of Ukraine or not. But, there is a possibility that we will not join. Because our focus is towards the south.

Significantly, ‘The Grain Corridor’ is also known as ‘Black Sea Grain Corridor’. It was started by the United Nations. Under this, it has to reach around those ports of Ukraine, which have been taken over by Russia and have stopped exporting from there. For this the agreement was signed on July 27 in Istanbul, Turkey. From here the way was given for the food export of Ukraine. Due to this, the prices of expensive food items could be controlled at the global level. For this, a joint coordination center of Ukraine, Russia and Turkey was created. This center monitors the process of agreement.

Bagchi of the Ministry of External Affairs said, India’s focus is to increase bilateral cooperation. It also includes the supply of food items to nations surrounded by food insecurity. He said, we have increased cooperation especially with many African countries. Apart from that we are also collaborating with many other countries since last few months. Bagchi said that no such assistance has been sought from Ukraine, in which equipment for power generation has been sought. We are doing everything possible to help him humanely. This humanitarian aid was also made available at a time when there was a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky.
