Meteorology: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued an orange alert for Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, saying that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall (heavy rain) in these states in the next 48 hours. In the neighboring state of Jharkhand, the cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above sea level. IMD has predicted light to moderate widespread rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during October 1 to October 4, 2023.
It will rain in these states today
According to Skymet Weather report, light to moderate rain at isolated places over Bihar, Jharkhand, Southeast Uttar Pradesh, parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, South Konkan and Goa, South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada. But there is a possibility of heavy rain. Light to moderate rain is possible over Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Northeast India, Sikkim, Odisha, South Chhattisgarh, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep. Light rain is possible in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Vidarbha and Tamil Nadu.
Rain continues in these states till October 5
There is a possibility of rain in Bihar and Andaman and Nicobar Islands from October 1 to October 5. IMD further said that very heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar on October 1 and October 3, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on October 3. There is a possibility of light to moderate widespread rainfall and heavy rainfall at isolated places with thunderstorm and lightning in Assam and Meghalaya from October 1 to October 5.
Chance of heavy rain in Chhattisgarh
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on October 1, 3 and 4 and Arunachal Pradesh on October 3 and 4. Light/moderate widespread rainfall/thunderstorm and isolated heavy rainfall with lightning is likely over East Madhya Pradesh on October 2 and Chhattisgarh from October 1 to October 3.

There is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in North Chhattisgarh on October 2. The withdrawal line of south-west monsoon is passing through Gulmarg, Dharamshala, Pantnagar, Etawah, Morena, Sawai Madhopur, Jodhpur, Barmer. Conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon from Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh.
