New Delhi: During the summit meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House on Friday, major discussions were held on issues such as defense, trade, cooperation, and energy. The Russia-Ukraine war and the sanctions imposed by the US on India and Russia were also central to the discussions. The US has imposed a 50 percent tariff on India for buying oil from Russia. Despite this, India has not stopped buying oil from Russia. Now, PM Modi and Putin have together found a way to deal with Trump’s tariffs. Trump’s tariffs will be rendered ineffective by Putin and Modi’s plan
Russian President Putin and PM Modi have agreed on a five-year plan to neutralize Trump’s tariffs. This partnership between India and Russia will strengthen the economic and trade partnership between the two countries. It will also neutralize the losses caused by the US tariffs. Putin’s main focus was on compensating for the losses caused by the tariffs imposed by Trump on India. Even before his visit, President Putin was quite concerned about the economic losses India was facing due to the American tariffs. The US will deeply regret imposing tariffs on India
US President Donald Trump, who imposed a 50 percent tariff on India, thought that this would make New Delhi surrender to the US and stop buying oil from Russia. But that did not happen. India and Russia had set a target in 2024 to surpass $100 billion in trade by 2030, but PM Modi said on Friday that this target will be achieved even earlier. India and Russia signed agreements on cooperation in several areas, including health, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges. In a press conference, PM Modi said that despite the many ups and downs the world has witnessed in the last eight decades, the friendship between India and Russia shines like the North Star.
