Telangana (Telangana ) Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday said that pregnant women should recite ‘Sundarkand’ and also read epics like Ramayana to give birth to a mentally and physically healthy child. Soundararajan made the remarks while inaugurating the ‘Garbh Sanskar’ program of an organization affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). She is also a gynecologist and embryologist. As part of the ‘Garbh Sanskar’ program organized by the Samvardhini Nyas, doctors affiliated to the organization will guide expectant mothers about “scientific and traditional” measures so that they can give birth to “cultured and patriotic” babies.

According to the ‘Garbha Sanskar’ module released online, these measures will include recitation of religious texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, chanting of Sanskrit mantras and yoga practices. This process will start from before conception to the stage of delivery and will continue till the child is two years old. According to this, family members of pregnant women will also be guided during the programme. Samvardhini Nyas is a unit of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, a parallel organization of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Addressing the event, Soundararajan appreciated the efforts of the Samvardhini Nyas in developing the ‘Garbha Sanskar’ program module and said that the implementation of this “scientific and holistic approach” towards pregnancy would “definitely” yield positive results. He said, “In villages, we have seen pregnant women reading good stories along with Ramayana, Mahabharata and other epics. Especially in Tamil Nadu, there is a belief that pregnant women should recite Sundarkand of Kamba Ramayana.

Practicing yoga during pregnancy will help in normal delivery
The governor said reciting “Sunderkand” during pregnancy would be “very good for the children to be born”. Sunderkand is a chapter of Ramayana. Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Soundararajan said that the scientific approach to pregnancy is to prevent complications during that period, but a holistic approach towards pregnancy will help pregnant women deliver healthy babies. Highlighting the importance of motherhood and ‘Garbh Sanskar’, she said that practicing yoga during pregnancy will improve the physical and mental health of both the expectant mother and the unborn baby and ultimately help in normal delivery.

Addressing the event, Leena Gahne, co-head of the intellectual wing of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, appreciated the release of the ‘Garbh Sanskar’ module on Jijabai’s 350th death anniversary and expressed hope that its implementation would lead to “the next generation with qualities like Shivaji Maharaj”. generation will come. Jijabai is the mother of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. According to a senior official of the organization, the ‘Garbh Sanskar’ program will be implemented across the country by the doctors associated with the Samvardhini Nyas. An official of the trust told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ on Saturday, ‘For this purpose we have divided the country into five zones and each zone will have a team of 10 doctors, who will implement this programme.’
