Supreme Court Orders Podcaster to Suspend Shows Amid Obscenity Charges

India’s Supreme Court has directed podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, to halt all his shows temporarily following charges of obscenity related to comments made during an online comedy program. The charges were filed by police in Maharashtra and Assam, leading Allahabadia to seek legal protection and the consolidation of complaints through a writ petition. The court granted him protection from arrest and ordered the suspension of his shows, while also permitting him to approach the police due to receiving death threats. Allahabadia has issued an apology, and the contentious show has been removed from all platforms. This incident highlights the ongoing tension between creative expression and societal conservatism in India, where content deemed indecent often faces public and legal challenges.
