Strait of Hormuz: Iran’s joint military command announced on Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz (Hormuz ) has been closed again. The move was attributed to Israeli attacks in Lebanon and what was described as “clear violations” by the US—specifically, “bad faith” and a failure to fulfill promises to end the war. A statement broadcast on state television warned that “plans are in place to take further steps if the aggression continues.”
Accusations against the US for failing to honor the agreement
However, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei indicated that little progress is likely until Iran is convinced the US is adhering to the agreement. “Therefore, the purpose of this visit is to demand that the other side fulfill its responsibilities,” he said. He added that negotiations for a final agreement would only commence once key promises—including ending the fighting in Lebanon—are met. Baghaei stated, “If any part of these agreements or promises is not implemented, the entire agreement will be jeopardized.”

It is worth noting that an interim agreement between the US and Iran had been signed earlier this week, following which ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz had resumed. However, just hours after reports of the ceasefire agreement emerged, Israel launched attacks on southern Lebanon on Saturday. At least 16 people, including two children, were killed in these attacks. The ongoing fighting has cast a shadow over the interim agreement between the US and Iran aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East. Israel Accuses Hezbollah
An Israeli military official stated that Hezbollah fired more than 50 projectiles at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon overnight, prompting the army to target the militant group in the area. In accordance with protocol, the official spoke on condition of anonymity. The military reported striking numerous Hezbollah positions and militants in southern Lebanon, including rocket launch sites and command centers. On Friday, Israel’s Ambassador to Washington, Yechiel Leiter, stated on X that Israel is “fully committed to an immediate ceasefire” provided Hezbollah adheres to the agreement and halts its attacks.
Hezbollah Blames Israel
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Hezbollah stated that it had pledged to abide by the ceasefire but held Israel responsible for multiple violations on Friday night. A statement from the group’s military wing affirmed its commitment to the ceasefire while asserting that it would also respond to attacks by Israeli troops.
