New Delhi: On one hand, the political temperature is rising in the country regarding the Lok Sabha elections 2024, while on the other hand, the scorching heat is scorching many states. The havoc of heatwave has disrupted people’s lives. Due to this, the vote percentage has also been significantly affected. In such a situation, the Indian Meteorological Department has also expressed the possibility of severe heat wave conditions continuing in Eastern India till May 1. However, after that it is expected to gradually reduce.
IMD has said that heat wave conditions are likely to continue in South Peninsular India during the next 5 days. There may also be heavy rains along with storms and strong winds in Northeast India in the next 4-5 days. Rain ( rain) with thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely to continue over Western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India and then taper off.

Heat wave conditions persisted at many places in the country and severe heat wave occurred in different parts.
Heat wave conditions are prevailing in isolated areas of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar and Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Rayalaseema, Konkan, Interior Karnataka and Kerala.
Dominating Odisha from 15th April and Gangetic West Bengal from 17th April.
Heat and humidity persisted at isolated places over Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and coastal areas.
It was hot even at night at different places in North Interior Karnataka and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning observed at most places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Arunachal Pradesh
Hailstorm was also seen at different places in Assam, Meghalaya, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad.
Heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam
There is a possibility of severe heat and heat wave in South India including the northern plains between April and June in the election year. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal between April and June. Heat wave is expected to last for several days in Central India, northern plains and some states of South India. These states include Gujarat, Maharashtra, North Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Extreme heat and heat wave to prevail in Bihar for next 3-4 days
The people of Bihar are not going to get respite from the heat and heat wave for the next three-four days. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of severe heat and heat wave in many districts of the state till May 1. The temperature in Nalanda has reached close to 42 degrees Celsius. Life is being affected by this. Various measures are being taken to protect from heat. The Meteorological Department has advised people to take precautions to avoid heat.
Life affected in UP due to extreme heat
In many cities of Uttar Pradesh the temperature has crossed 40 degrees Celsius. The highest temperatures are being seen in Bulandshahr, Prayagraj, Basti, Varanasi, Sultanpur, Agra and Jhansi. The State Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave warning in most parts of the state. During this period, dry hot winds will also blow in many parts of the state.
‘Orange’ alert issued for Palakkad, Kerala
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange’ alert for Palakkad district of Kerala in view of the possibility of severe heat. Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) said the weather agency has also issued a ‘yellow’ alert for some areas of Kollam and Thrissur districts in view of the possibility of scorching and extreme heat.
Apart from Bihar, red alert has also been issued in West Bengal for the next 3 to 4 days. Orange alert has been issued for the interior areas of Karnataka. There is a heat wave alert in Goa also.
According to IMD, from April 29 to May 3, the temperature in Palakkad and Kollam and Thrissur districts is expected to be 41 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius respectively. KSDMA said in a statement that the temperature in Kozhikode district is likely to reach 39 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department informed that twenty-three states have prepared action plans to deal with the heatwave. Election rallies will also be held during the heatwave. A large number of people will be deployed for election duty at various places in the country. Forces will be sent from one place to another.
Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “Hot weather has been predicted in the end of April and thereafter. Crores of people will exercise their franchise at this time, so preparation in advance is necessary. We may see extremely hot weather in the next two and a half months.” It is expected to happen.”
The Meteorological Department has said that the increase in maximum temperature will not have any impact on the wheat crop. IMD said that there will be extreme heat during the period from April to June. It is expected to have the greatest impact on the central and western peninsular parts. However, there is no heat wave warning for wheat producing states except Madhya Pradesh. Temperatures are expected to remain above normal in Central India and Western India.
