New Delhi: The central government has constituted 24 parliamentary committees. Congress’ Shashi Tharoor (Shashi Tharoor ) has been appointed as the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee while Digvijay Singh has been appointed as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Women, Education, Youth and Sports Affairs. Ram Gopal Yadav has been appointed as the Chairman of the Health Committee and Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense Affairs. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has been appointed as a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense Affairs. Bhartruhari Mahtab has been appointed as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance Affairs.
At the same time, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has been appointed as the Chairman of the Communications and IT Committee. BJP MP from Mandi Kangana Ranaut has got a place as a member in this committee. BJP leader CM Ramesh has been appointed as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Railways Affairs. TMC and DMK have been given chairmanship of 2 committees each, while JDU and SP have been given chairmanship of one committee each. Rajiv Pratap Rudy has been made the chairman of the standing committee related to the Ministry of Water Resources. Yusuf Pathan has been made a member of the standing committee related to the Ministry of Commerce and Harbhajan Singh has been made a member of the standing committee related to the Ministry of Education. Charanjit Singh Channi has been made the chairman of the standing committee related to the Ministry of Agriculture.
What is a standing committee of Parliament
The standing committee of Parliament is a committee formed within the Parliament itself which studies in depth on matters related to a particular subject or ministry. Its members are MPs from various parties. These committees help in performing the main functions of the Parliament more efficiently. Parliamentary committees study the bills introduced by the government in detail and give suggestions for improving them. Many times the help of the standing committee of Parliament is also taken to remove the deadlock between the pro and opposition on an issue or bills.
