Jaipur. Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee, said that the Congress (Congress) party needs to think outside the Nehru-Gandhi family for its leadership. Speaking on the sidelines of the 17th Jaipur Literature Festival, he said that as a supporter of the Congress Party and a responsible citizen, I am worried about the party.

He further said that in the year 2014 and 2019, the Congress Party under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi had to face shameful defeat. Rahul Gandhi was the face of Congress.
There is a need for Congress leadership and a new leader. Participating in the Jaipur Literature Festival, Sharmistha Mukherjee said, “During the UPA government, my father had told former Congress President Sonia Gandhi that it was better to sit in the opposition rather than running a weak government.”

When she was asked whether any non-Gandhi should get a chance for a better future of Congress, Sharmistha said – Yes, it should happen. Sharmistha said that there is a rumor about my joining BJP. I am a staunch Congressman and am not going anywhere. In a session here, he spoke openly about the relationship between Pranab Mukherjee and former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.
Let us tell you that in the year 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress had got 52 seats, whereas in the year 2014, Congress had got 44 seats.
