Senior Trinamool Congress leader passes away

Kolkata: Senior Trinamool Congress leader and minister in the West Bengal government Subrata Mukherjee has passed away. He was 75 years old. He breathed his last on Thursday after a heart attack.

Subrata Mukherjee had a heart attack, after which he was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata but doctors could not save him. Bengal minister Arup Biswas, who reached the hospital, later told that he was declared dead at around 9.22 pm.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself reached the hospital and confirmed the news of her fellow leader’s death. He said, ‘This is a big loss. My heart is broken. His contribution was immense. I cannot imagine that he is no more.

Subrata Mukherjee was the Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development Department in the Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal. He also served as the Mayor of Kolkata from 2000 to 2005. At that time the Left Front was in power in the state. Due to his administrative skills, he was counted among the best mayors of Bengal.
