Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra Says Inflation, External Debt Under Control Despite Global Shocks

BUSINESS :India’s economic fundamentals remain strong and stable despite global uncertainties, said Sanjay Malhotra, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, during an interaction held in New York.

He stated that inflation and external debt levels are well within target, highlighting the resilience of India’s economic management amid global challenges. According to him, strong policy frameworks and consistent reforms have helped maintain macroeconomic stability.

Malhotra emphasized that India’s robust financial sector and forward-looking reforms continue to boost global investor confidence. He noted that these factors are strengthening the country’s position as a key player in the global economy.

Strong Economic Indicators
The RBI Governor pointed out that India currently holds foreign exchange reserves of around 700 billion US dollars, providing a solid buffer against external shocks. He also highlighted the steady growth of financial markets, including government and corporate bond segments.

Rising Global Engagement
India’s global economic footprint is expanding, with the country having concluded eight free trade agreements covering 37 nations. This, according to Malhotra, reflects India’s increasing integration with the global economy and its growing appeal among international investors.

The interaction was organized by the Consulate General of India, where discussions focused on India’s growth trajectory and its role in the evolving global economic landscape.
