MOSCOW: Russia on Saturday denied reports that the Putin government was planning an attack on Ukraine with 1.75 thousand soldiers. In a report published in the US newspaper Washington Post, US officials were quoted as saying that Russia was preparing to attack Ukraine with the 100 Battalion Tactical Group. The report claimed that Moscow was planning a multi-front offensive. However, Russia has denied this.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has rejected this report of the American newspaper, accusing the US of worsening the current situation in Ukraine. Russia said that earlier the Pentagon itself had called for reducing tension. This dispute between the US and Russia has come at a time when US President Joe Biden is going to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone on Tuesday. President Joe Biden said that his administration was planning to talk to President Putin on the issue of Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukraine’s defense minister had warned that Russia was preparing for an attack on Ukraine in January with major military preparations. On Friday, President Putin slammed Turkish President Erdogan over the deployment of Turkish drones in Ukraine.
Amid tensions on the Ukraine border, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Larvo called on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to provide security guarantees and said NATO would not extend its borders to Russia. Ukraine has said that it will not abandon plans to join the European military.
