Jhansi: The accused, who raped a 21-year-old girl on Friday night in Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express, was hiding in the freezer of the pantry car. On the information of Bhopal, Jhansi GRP arrested him during the search. The girl had lodged an FIR in Bhopal. A 21-year-old girl from Delhi told Bhopal GRP that she was going from Delhi to Mumbai. She panicked after hearing from people’s mouths on the way that the lone girl in Mumbai was not safe. On Friday, she boarded a train to go back to Delhi from Mumbai, but seeing the crowd, she got down at Bhusaval station. From here she boarded the AC coach of the Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express going from Yesvantpur to Nizamuddin.
Due to lack of reservation, she slept on the floor inside the coach by laying a blanket. Around 8 o’clock in the night a young man came there wearing a blue shirt and woke him up and went outside the pantry car asking him to sleep. After sometime he came again and forcibly dragged her inside the pantry car, where he raped her. On raising the noise of the girl, the accused beat her and ran away after threatening to throw her from the train if she told anyone. After this she went to the second compartment crying, informed the passengers about the incident. On reaching Bhopal train, two passengers took the girl to the GRP police station and told the whole matter.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the police searched the pantry car. The people found here were taken down and confronted with the girl, but she was not accused in it. On this, Bhopal GRP further informed, on reaching Jhansi station, the GRP and RPF searched the pantry car. When no one was seen there, suddenly the freezer was opened and the accused hidden in it was caught. During interrogation, he revealed his name as Bhupendra Tomar. He hails from Bhind, Madhya Pradesh. GRP Jhansi handed over the accused to Bhopal GRP.
