Rahul Gandhi Targets Centre Over Fuel Price Hike, Says Public Paying for Government’s Mistakes

New Delhi, May 15, 2026: Rahul Gandhi on Friday strongly criticised the central government over the latest fuel price hike, saying ordinary citizens are being forced to bear the cost of the Modi government’s “mistakes.”

Reacting to the increase in petrol and diesel prices by ₹3 per litre, the Congress leader said the impact on the public has already begun and warned that more financial burden could follow in the coming days. In a post shared on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government was recovering its policy failures from the people in phases.

The fuel price hike comes after a sharp rise in global crude oil prices amid growing tensions linked to the Iran conflict. State-run fuel retailers revised prices upward for the first time in more than four years, leading to concerns over inflation and rising transportation costs.

Political reactions have intensified following the announcement, with opposition parties accusing the government of failing to control fuel prices. Meanwhile, experts believe the increase could affect transportation, agriculture and daily household expenses across the country.
