Amritsar. The Punjab Police on Saturday launched a state-wide cordon and search operation (CASO) against the activists of ‘Waris Punjab De’. Many criminal cases are registered against these workers. A total of 78 persons have been arrested so far during the operation, while many people have been detained for questioning. Many others including Amritpal Singh are still absconding, a massive search operation is going on to nab them.
Disclosing more in this regard, a spokesman of Punjab Police said that on Saturday afternoon several activities of ‘Waris Punjab De’ (WPD) workers were intercepted by the police on Shahkot-Malsian road in Jalandhar district and seven persons were arrested. He was arrested on the spot. He told that there are many other absconders including Amritpal Singh, who are being raided on a large scale to catch them.
So far 9 weapons have been recovered during this state level operation. These include a .315 bore rifle, seven 12 bore rifles, a revolver and 373 live cartridges of different calibres.
These allegations have been leveled against WPD workers
The spokesman said that the WPD personnel are involved in four criminal cases, including cases related to creating unrest in society, murder with intent, assault on police personnel and obstructing public servants from discharging their duties in a lawful manner. He further said that case number 39 dated 24-02-2023 has been registered against the workers of ‘WPD’ for the attack on Ajnala police station.
He said that all persons involved in criminal cases would be dealt with according to the law and all persons wanted by the police should surrender themselves to the law. He said that his constitutional rights regarding legal defense will be protected.
