Morocco Rabat: A professor has been jailed for sexually abusing female students in exchange for good marks. In this high-profile case, 4 more professors are yet to appear in court. A court in the African country of Morocco has sentenced a professor to two years in prison after finding him guilty of indecent behavior, sexual harassment and violence. This matter related to Hassan University came to light when the chat between the student and the professor was leaked on social media. After this, there was a stir in the whole country.
This is the first court ruling in Morocco in high-profile sexual assault cases at universities. Court has convicted Professor of Economics of Hassan I University of sexual harassment of his students. The professor used to harass the girl students on the pretext of giving them good grades. In this case, 4 more professors are yet to appear in the court. A total of five professors of the university have been accused of forcing girls to have sex in exchange for good marks.
The matter came to light when a chat between the students and the professor was leaked on social media in September last year. Actually, a university student had made the chat public. Gradually this matter spread and this chat leak reached the university administration. After this a case was registered against the professor and the matter reached the court. After this revelation, there was a ruckus in the whole country, people started taking to the streets demanding strictest punishment to the accused.
Meanwhile, when some other girl students also made similar allegations, the names of other professors of the university also surfaced. A total of five professors were accused and cases were filed against all five. Of these, one has now been convicted of indecent behavior, sexual harassment and violence. According to the report, there is a series of such incidents which have affected the reputation of Moroccan universities in recent years. However, the present case was different in that it was brought to court for the first time.
