Congo: 25 people died when a boat capsized in southwestern Congo. Many football players (Players) were also among the dead. Officials gave this information on Monday. Provincial spokesman Alexis Mputu said that the players were returning after playing a match in Mushi city of Mai-Ndombe province on Sunday night, when the boat carrying them in the Kwa river capsized.
30 other people were rescued
According to Alexis Mputu, poor visibility at night could be a reason for the accident. Local administrator of Mushi region Renacle Kwatiba said that at least 30 other people were rescued.
Boats have capsized many times in Congo before this too
Fatal boat accidents are common in this country of Central Africa. Where late night travel and over-capacity passengers are often blamed for this. Officials have to struggle to enforce boat rules.
Rebels kidnapped 130 patients in Congo
On the other hand, last week Rwanda-backed M23 rebels kidnapped at least 130 sick and injured people from two hospitals in a major city in eastern Congo. On February 28, M23 fighters attacked the CBCA Ndosho Hospital and Heal Africa Hospital in Goma.
This is a strategic city, which the rebels captured earlier this year. The rebels kidnapped 116 patients from CBCA and 15 others from Heal Africa. They suspected them to be Congolese army soldiers or members of the pro-government Wazalando militia.
