Bhubaneswar. Pakistan’s junior hockey team has gone to India. He has to play in the Junior Hockey World Cup to be held in Bhubaneswar. Earlier, hockey team captain Abdul Rana said on Monday that his team will surprise the whole world with its performance in the upcoming World Cup. Three-time Olympic champions Pakistan’s senior team could not qualify for the 2016 and 2021 Games.
Pakistan’s junior team has now come to India to play the Junior World Cup, which will be played in Bhubaneswar from Wednesday. Abdul said in the online press conference, ‘Senior officials of our government and federation are making a lot of efforts. We are sure that Pakistani hockey will be better in the next one or two years.’ He said, ‘Our team will play well in this tournament also. You will see change in Pakistan Hockey. The team is playing as a unit and there is a family atmosphere. I am sure Pakistan will surprise the whole world with its hockey.
Coach Danish Kalim also echoed his tone but said that hockey has suffered in Pakistan due to lack of employment. He said, ‘There are many reasons for the decline of Pakistan hockey but all I can say is that the preparations for the senior and junior teams have started. The top officials are very professional who are preparing the team and in the next three years, better results will start coming.
He said, ‘There are not enough jobs in the department, due to which the youth shy away from playing hockey. This is also one of the reasons for the decline of hockey but our government is making efforts in this direction. Before this, the Junior Hockey World Cup will start from November 24, whose final will be played on December 5. Earlier, Pakistan High Commission in-charge Aftab Hasan Khan warmly welcomed the junior hockey team. A senior diplomat of the High Commission received the team members at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
