Delhi: India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, which will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the iconic Red Fort in Delhi. The Prime Minister will hoist the national flag from the ramparts of this iconic monument and address the entire nation. At a time when the country is moving rapidly towards realizing the government’s vision of a developed India by 2047, the theme of this year’s Independence Day celebrations has been kept as “New India”. The celebrations will serve as a platform to provide new energy for moving forward on the path of continuous development and progress of a prosperous, safe and empowered ( celebrated) new India.
These leaders will welcome PM Modi
On his arrival at the Red Fort, the Prime Minister will be welcomed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth and Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The Defence Secretary will introduce Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area, to the Prime Minister. Thereafter, the GOC, Delhi Area will escort Narendra Modi to the saluting dais where a joint contingent of inter-services and Delhi Police Guard will salute the Prime Minister. Thereafter, the Prime Minister will inspect the Guard of Honour.
PM’s Guard of Honour contingent will have 96 jawans
The Guard of Honour contingent for the Prime Minister will consist of 96 jawans (one officer and 24 jawans each from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Delhi Police. The Indian Air Force is coordinating the Independence Day celebrations this year. The Guard of Honour will be commanded by Wing Commander A S Sekhon. The Army contingent in the Prime Minister’s Guard will be commanded by Major Arjun Singh, the Navy contingent will be commanded by Lieutenant Commander Komaldeep Singh and the Air Force contingent will be commanded by Squadron Leader Rajan Arora. The Delhi Police contingent will be commanded by Additional DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh.
The chiefs of the three services will welcome PM Modi
After inspecting the Guard of Honour, the Prime Minister will proceed to the ramparts of the Red Fort where he will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Delhi Area will be there to hoist the national flag to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister will be led to the dais on the ramparts by Flying Officer Rashika Sharma. The salute will be held with a 21-gun salute by the gallant gunners of 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial). The ceremonial battery, using indigenous 105 mm Light Field Guns, will be commanded by Major Pawan Singh Shekhawat and the Gun Position Officer will be Naib Subedar (Assistant Instructor in Gunnery) Anutosh Sarkar.
PM to give National Salute after Flag Unfurling
The National Flag Guard, comprising one officer and 32 other ranks each from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Delhi Police, a total of 128 personnel, will give the National Salute when the Prime Minister unfurls the National Flag. Wing Commander Tarun Dagar will command the inter-service guard and police guard. The Army contingent of the National Flag Guard will be commanded by Major Prakash Singh, the Navy contingent by Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Parvez and the Air Force contingent by Squadron Leader V.V. Sharavan will take over. Apart from this, the command of the Delhi Police contingent will be in the hands of Additional DCP Abhimanyu Poswal.
The band will be conducted by Junior Warrant Officer M Deka
After the flag hoisting, the tricolor will be given a ‘national salute’. The Air Force Band, consisting of a JCO and 25 other ranks, will play the national anthem while hoisting the national flag and giving the ‘national salute’. The band will be conducted by Junior Warrant Officer M Deka. This will be the first time that 11 Agniveer air musicians will also be part of the band playing the national anthem. As soon as the Prime Minister hoists the national flag, two MI-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force, one carrying the national flag and the other carrying the flag depicting ‘Operation Sindoor’, will shower flowers at the venue. The captains of these helicopters will be Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal.
The success of Operation Sindoor will be celebrated
This year, the success of Operation Sindoor will also be celebrated during the Independence Day celebrations. The logo of Operation Sindoor will be present on the view cutter on Gyanpath. Flowers The decoration of the event will also be based on this operation. The logo of Operation Sindoor will also be printed on the invitation cards. Along with this, the watermark of Chenab Bridge will also be made on the invitation cards, which shows the rise of ‘New India’.
Building ‘New India’ on Gyanpath
After the flower shower, the Prime Minister will address the nation. After the conclusion of the Prime Minister’s speech, the cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and ‘My India’ volunteers will sing the national anthem. A total of 2,500 male and female cadets (Army, Navy and Air Force) and ‘My India’ volunteers will participate in this ceremony. These cadets and ‘My India’ volunteers will be present on Gyanpath in front of the ramparts. All of them will sit in the shape of the logo of ‘New India’.
Special Guests
Around 5,000 special guests from various fields are expected to attend the ceremony to be held at the Red Fort this year.
