New Delhi. The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making plans keeping in mind every section of the society. All the schemes have been implemented and countless people are taking advantage of them. In this sequence, the central government is now going to start a new scheme for the care of the elderly. The name of this scheme will be ‘PM Special’. Under this, services of medical care will be provided to the elderly sitting at home. This scheme will create a systematic, reliable system of old age care professionals and also reduce the cost.
Quoting those who were aware of the scheme, the newspaper said that under this scheme, in the next three years, about one lakh people will be given training (Geriatrics). The Ministry of Social Justice can start the training program within a week. An online portal will be created by the government, on which a list of all registered and trained geriatric professionals will be there. It will be like an e-market place. Here people will be able to see the availability of professionals for the care of the elderly at their convenience and will be able to hire them. This website is expected to be launched by September.
Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, R. Subramaniam told HT that the requirements of geriatric professionals have not yet been properly met. Adequately trained professionals are either not there to take care of the elderly, or even then people do not get to know about them. In such a situation, people take services from wherever possible. Many times untrained people also start doing this work, due to which the health and care of the elderly is not in safe hands. Apart from this, the cost of care is also very high. Subramaniam told that now the government is making its system in a professional manner, which will be approved by the Health Ministry. This will enable the elderly to get quality care and the expenditure will also be less than before.
The secretary said that any person who has studied up to 12th can apply for training to become a geriatric professional. He told that the government will train at least 10,000 people from SC, ST and other backward communities free of cost during this period. At least one lakh people will get employment from this scheme. The biggest thing is that a system of proper care of the elderly will be created.
