The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected MPs was held in the Lok Sabha on Monday and Tuesday. The BJP-led NDA alliance has 293 MPs in the Lok Sabha and the opposition alliance INDIA has 233 members. It is believed that the opposition can also get the support of 3 independent MPs. It is believed that Om Birla will once again be successful in becoming the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The election will be historic
The election for the post of Speaker of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday is going to be historic in itself. This will be the first such occasion after 1976 when there will be an election for the Speaker. Earlier in independent India, elections were held only three times for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker in 1952, 1967 and 1976. Since independence, only M A Iyengar, G S Dhillon, Balram Jakhar and G M C Balayogi have retained the post of Speaker in the next Lok Sabhas.
No agreement between the ruling and the opposition
According to the information, talks were held between Congress leader KC Venugopal and DMK’s TR Balu, Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister and BJP President JP Nadda in the Parliament House office of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh with the aim of building a consensus on the issue of the Speaker’s post. However, both sides remained adamant on their stand and it did not yield any result. Venugopal alleged that the government did not commit to giving the Deputy Speaker’s post to the opposition.
Whip issued to MPs
The BJP has issued a three-line whip to all its MPs and ordered them to be present in Parliament on Wednesday, June 26. Tomorrow morning, the ministers / senior leaders of the Modi government will call the alliance MPs of their respective states for breakfast and brief them about the voting process. At the same time, Congress also issued a three-line whip to its MPs on Tuesday, asking them to be present in the House from 11 am on Wednesday during the election for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.
