ICC: International Cricket Council (ICC) is continuously announcing changes in some rules of all three formats, in which they have now announced a new rule regarding powerplay in T20 International. This new rule will be implemented in a situation when the number of overs (number of over) in the match will be reduced, in which the batting team will have less number of overs and the powerplay will be implemented according to that new rule. There is a rule of 6 overs powerplay in a 20-20 over match, in which if the number of overs in an innings is less, then the rule of powerplay will be implemented in that situation. ICC implemented this new rule for powerplay in case of less overs
According to the new rule implemented by ICC in case of less overs, if a match is of 19 overs, then powerplay will be implemented for up to 5.4 overs. ICC has determined the number of overs of powerplay according to each over. According to the earlier rule, if the batting team gets a chance to play 8 overs in a match, then in that situation a powerplay of 2 overs was implemented, whereas when the match was of 9 overs, the rule of 3 overs powerplay was applicable. This new rule of ICC will be applicable whenever the overs are reduced in both the innings of the match.

This new rule that ICC has implemented for powerplay in T20 International has been used in England’s domestic T20 tournament T20 Blast for the last several years. Now it is being implemented in International Cricket Council as well. In this new rule, whenever the powerplay ends, the field umpire will signal the fielding team and make them understand that the powerplay is over now.
