Islamabad. An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 struck 303 km northwest of Pakistan’s capital Islamabad late in the night. This earthquake occurred in the northwestern region of Pakistan at around 1:15 pm tonight. According to the National Center for Seismology, the depth of the earthquake was 120 km below the ground. There is no news of any loss of life or property due to this earthquake so far.
There have been many devastating earthquakes in the North West of Pakistan. One of which came to Balakot in 2005. The entire area was devastated by this devastating earthquake. For the survivors, the Government of Pakistan had assured to give plots to build new houses. Even after 17 years, this matter is still hanging. People protested on Monday against the ongoing delay in land allotment. After the earthquake in Balakot, the survivors have been kept in temporary residences. Expressing displeasure about these temporary residences, people said that they were shifted after the deadly calamity but till date the necessary facilities were not provided.
The Pakistani government has consistently failed to address the hardships of the displaced families. Hence the angry mob said that their protest would not end until suitable residential facilities were provided. Addressing the crowd, Tehreek-e-New Balakot city president Mian Ashraf said that we are fed up with living in small temporary shelters since the displacement by the 2005 earthquake, but both the federal and provincial governments are indifferent to our grief. Huh. This is evident from his failure to develop New Balakot city in the last 17 years.
