New Delhi: NASA on Saturday launched the James Webb Space Telescope built at a cost of $ 10 billion. This space telescope will replace the Hubble telescope in the coming times.
The world’s largest and most powerful infrared telescope was launched by NASA on Saturday. Its job is to examine information about galaxies and stars.
NASA scientists working in the European and Canadian Space Agency said that the $ 10 billion James Webb Space Telescope will replace the Hubble Telescope by the next decade.
The telescope was packed in a cargo and launched on an Ariane 5 rocket. The launch took place at 12.20 pm international time on Saturday from the European Space Agency’s launch base in French Guiana.
This telescope will be installed in solar orbit, millions of miles away from Earth, which is four times more distance from the moon. This launch was earlier to be done on Christmas evening but due to strong winds the launch had to be postponed and today the launch took place on Saturday.
The origami-style was adopted to fit the telescope’s giant mirror and sunshield in front of the rocket. The telescope’s mirror is over 6.5 meters (21 ft) long and is gold-plated.
