Voyager 1: NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft has started working once again. After the fault in it was fixed, it is sending valuable data related to space. NASA (NASA ) said that the spacecraft had stopped sending data in November 2023. After the fault was fixed, Voyager 1 is now in active mode, all its four devices have started working as before.
NASA did wonders
Let us tell you that NASA launched Voyager 1 on 5 September 1977. Since November last year, Voyager 1 was sending distorted data instead of its normal binary code. It is currently more than 15 billion miles from Earth. Considering the spacecraft’s 46-year journey, the fault in it was completely expected. The Voyager 1 team traced the problem to the Flight Data Subsystem (FDS). FDS used to package the data and send it to NASA.
Voyager 1 is now completely fine
When a problem was found in the spacecraft, it was investigated in detail. The investigation revealed the exact chip causing the problem. After which the team worked on it for several days and fixed the problem. After which Voyager 1 started sending data again on April 20, 2024.
Mission of Voyager 1
From 1977 to 1980, the mission of Voyager 1 was to conduct flybys of Jupiter and Saturn. So that data could be collected on these planets and their moons. After 1980, Voyager 1 finished its primary mission and started its journey towards interstellar space. It is currently sending valuable data about the outer regions of the solar system and the interstellar medium to NASA.
Voyager 1 is being taken care of
With Voyager 1 back online, the team has gotten serious about it. The focus will include resynchronizing its timekeeping software and maintaining the digital tape recorder used to measure plasma waves.
Voyager 1’s journey
In 1979, Voyager 1 sent detailed pictures and data of Jupiter, its rings and its moons. These include volcanic activity. In 1980, Voyager 1 sent unprecedented close-up pictures and data of Saturn and its rings along with its largest moon Titan to NASA.
Voyager 1 is also not affected by the Sun
In 1990, Voyager 1 took a special picture of the Earth from a distance of about 6 billion kilometers. Which showed the Earth as a small point in the vastness of space. On August 25, 2012, Voyager 1 became the first spacecraft to enter interstellar space. Right now Voyager is at such a great distance from the Earth that even the Sun has no effect on it.
