Nagpur: The main accused in the murder of Umesh Kolhe in Amravati, Maharashtra has been arrested. Irfan Sheikh has been arrested from Nagpur. This accused runs an NGO and had motivated Shamim and his friends to kill him as well as provided logistic support.
Amravati ACP Aarti Singh said that the interrogation of the main accused Irfan Sheikh is going on. He told that Irfan had promised to give 10 thousand rupees to the accused and help them to escape safely in a car.
Umesh Kolhe was assassinated on the night of 21 June. CCTV footage related to this incident has come to the fore. In which Amravati shopkeeper Umesh Kolhe was stabbed to death by three accused riding a bike near the school building.
NIA team reached Amravati for investigation
A team of the National Investigation Agency reached Amravati city of Maharashtra on Saturday in connection with the investigation of the murder of a chemist. The Centre’s decision to conduct the NIA probe into the matter has been taken in view of the apprehension that the murder of the chemist may be the result of a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma, suspended from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Chemist Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe (54) was murdered on June 21 and Maharashtra Police has already arrested six persons in connection with the murder.
These accused are Mudassir Ahmed alias Sonu Raja Sheikh Ibrahim, Sharukh Pathan alias Badshaha Hidayat Khan, Abdul Tawfiq alias Nanu Sheikh Taslim, Shoheb Khan alias Buria Sabir Khan, Atif Rashid Adil Rashif, Dr Yusuf Khan Bahadur Khan.
Kolhe was killed for his social media post allegedly supporting BJP’s Nupur Sharma. On June 23, the police arrested two accused Mudassir Ahmed and 25-year-old Shahrukh Pathan, following a complaint by Sanket Kohle, son of the deceased Umesh Kohli.
