New Delhi. After the end of the T20 World Cup, everyone’s eyes were fixed on the retention process of the Indian Premier League. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had given November 15 as the last date for all the 10 franchises to retain and release the players. This process was also completed on Tuesday, in which many IPL teams released veteran players for mini auction. There were many surprising names among them. Two franchisees have sidelined even veterans who got more than 10 crores last year.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has left its captain Kane Williamson for auction. Williamson is one of the most expensive players to be released. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained the New Zealand captain last year for Rs 14 crore. However, the performance of this franchise was not good in the 15th season of IPL and the team finished eighth in the point table. Sunrisers Hyderabad had won 5 matches in the last season. This franchise has taken a big decision for the upcoming season.

Mayank Agarwal, who was the captain of Punjab Kings last season, has also been released by the franchise. Right-handed Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal was retained by Punjab Kings in the 15th edition of IPL for the same amount as Kane Williamson i.e. Rs 14 crore. However, Mayank could not live up to the expectations of the team management. Despite being a very strong team last year, the Punjab Kings, captained by Mayank Agarwal, managed to finish in sixth place. Mayank Agarwal, 31, managed just 196 runs in 13 matches last season at a poor average of 16.33.
The third name in this list is that of West Indies limited overs captain Nicholas Pooran. Puran was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the IPL last year. But this time the franchise has turned its back on the wicket-keeper batsman. Puran was joined by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 10.75 crores. Pooran is the third most expensive player from any franchise released for the mini auction of IPL 2023. Puran could not show anything special with the bat last season.
