Many big companies laid off employees due to AI

If the Indian government does not make any rules and regulations regarding the use of AI, then its widespread effect can be seen in all big and small companies. Due to which the outbreak of unemployment can increase in the country in large numbers. Due to Artificial Intelligence (AI), layoffs are being done in many companies. Recently, TCS was in the news, now the name of Salesforce has been added to this list of layoffs. The American cloud software giant has cut 4,000 jobs. These layoffs are of customer support executives. Now AI will do their work.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff himself has given the news of layoffs on the podcast. He said that the number of employees in the support team has been reduced from 9,000 to 5,000. Benioff said, I managed to rebalance the number of my support staff. I reduced it from 9,000 to about 5,000 because I needed fewer employees. That is, about half of Salesforce’s support department has been reduced. On the other hand, TCS has increased the salary of most of its employees by 4.5 to 7 percent this year, but before that the company had also laid off about 12,000 employees, due to which protests were seen across the country. Apart from the above, Microsoft, Intel, Google, Meta and other IT companies have also seen massive layoffs in 2025.

TCS, the country’s largest IT company, announced a salary hike of 4.5 to 7 percent for 80 percent of its employees in 2025. This increase is mainly for junior and mid-level employees, while top performers have benefited more from it. According to the company’s quarterly report, the attrition rate had reached 13.8 percent, that is, the number of employees leaving the company has increased. This salary hike of TCS will be implemented from September 2025, which has created a lot of enthusiasm among the employees. It is worth noting that in the year 2025, TCS announced the layoff of more than 12,000 employees, which is about 2 percent of its total workforce. The company cited market uncertainty, AI, automation and a strictly implemented new bench policy as the reason behind the layoffs, which set a limit on non-project days. This move of TCS was opposed in many states and employees’ organizations like NITES and Karnataka Union demanded intervention from the government. The protesters also alleged violation of labor laws.

However, in 2025, not only TCS, but many big technology companies like Microsoft, Intel, Google, Meta, Salesforce, Panasonic have seen large scale layoffs. Intel alone has planned to lay off 25,000 employees, while companies like Microsoft, Google, Meta, HP, Amazon and Salesforce are also included in the list of layoffs. Cost reduction, changes in working methods, AI and automation in companies have led to layoffs, which has put the livelihood of thousands of employees at risk. Going forward, companies are increasing investments in AI and digital platforms, due to which job uncertainty will remain. If we talk about layoffs in major companies in 2025, then 12,000+ employees have been laid off in TCS due to AI, automation, strategic changes, 25,000+ employees have been laid off in Intel due to cost, restructuring, and loss of livelihood due to AI. Similarly, thousands of employees have been laid off in Microsoft due to cost reduction, business reform, change in business structure in Google, Meta due to AI, automation, and Salesforce due to cost reduction. Similarly, 10,000+ employees of Panasonic have been laid off due to cost and change in work style.
