Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin       ( Putin )   and U.S. President Donald Trump held a lengthy phone conversation on Wednesday. According to the Kremlin, the call lasted for over an hour and a half and was described as “friendly and businesslike.” During the conversation, Putin put forward a significant proposal regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He suggested implementing a temporary ceasefire next month to mark the anniversary of the end of World War II—known as Victory Day. Trump supported this proposal, describing it as a positive step.

Both Leaders Appear United in Their Views on Zelenskyy
According to the Kremlin, Trump believes that a settlement to end the Ukraine conflict is now close at hand. Conversely, Putin alleged that Ukraine is employing “terrorist methods.” Both leaders also discussed the stance adopted by the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the Kremlin, both Putin and Trump share the view that the Kyiv government’s conduct is prolonging the conflict. It is worth noting that Trump’s dissatisfaction with Zelenskyy has surfaced on several occasions in the past, and he has previously pressured Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire.

He also expressed support for Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran. During their talks, the two leaders also discussed potential economic and energy projects, which could pave the way for future cooperation. According to the Kremlin, at the conclusion of the meeting—which lasted approximately an hour and a half—the two leaders bade each other a warm farewell.
