New Delhi. After the death of the country’s Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Singh Rawat in a helicopter accident, the central government may soon appoint a new CDS. According to top sources, the government can appoint a new CDS in the next seven to ten days. Sources say that after today’s tragic incident, the government is committed to the appointment of a new CDS. Eligible officers will be considered for this post.
General Rawat became the country’s first CDS in January 2020. The maximum age limit for the post of CDS is 65 years. PM Modi had announced on Independence Day in 2019 that the CDS would be above the three army chiefs in the order of precedence.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will give statement on today’s helicopter crash in Lok Sabha at 11:15 am and in Rajya Sabha at 12:00. The body of General Rawat will be brought from Tamil Nadu to Delhi. The last rites will be held in the national capital tomorrow.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences on the untimely demise of CDS Bipin Rawat. He said that General Rawat has served the country, his contribution cannot be forgotten. I am saddened by his untimely demise. The Prime Minister has also expressed condolences to the family and relatives.
At the same time, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed deep grief over the death of the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff, Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 more people in the helicopter crash of the Indian Air Force in Tamil Nadu. He has said that his untimely death is an irreparable loss to the country.
