Diwali Puja: New idols of Mata Lakshmi and Shri Ganesh ji are installed on Diwali Puja. But many people do not have proper information about what to do with old idols after worship. Due to which they go on making mistakes unknowingly. He and his entire family have to bear the consequences of those mistakes.
According to religious scriptures, new idols of Mata Lakshmi and Shri Ganesh ji are brought home on Diwali. After sprinkling Gangajal on them and chanting Gayatri mantras, establishment is done in a home-built temple. After this, facing the old idols already sitting in the temple, it is urged to them in their mind that you have showered blessings on me and my family throughout the year. That’s why I pray that you now take your place in these new idols. Along with Mata Lakshmi and Shri Ganesh ji, pray the same to Lord Vishnu, Lord Shri Ram and Mata Janaki.
After 2 days from Diwali i.e. on the day of Bhaiya Dooj, after bowing reverently in front of all the old idols, lift them from their place and put the newly brought idols in their place. After this, keep the old idols safe by wrapping them in a newspaper or clean cloth. Then whenever you get the opportunity, you throw them in a clean river or canal near your house. If the water of the river or drain is dirty, then do not throw old idols in them. Doing so is considered disrespectful to the idols.
If no clean river or canal is found around you, then you can dig a pit at a clean place and bury the old idols there. To bid farewell to old idols in this way is called Bhu-immersion. Keep in mind that the place where the idols are being buried is not a garbage dump or any other bad place. If you do this, then your year-long worship done in front of Mata Lakshmi and Shri Ganesh ji becomes fruitless and poverty increases in the family.
